Ships in the Night

Ships in the Night ︎︎︎ an app from the future that helps you avoid running into people you know in public

2021 - UI/UX, Branding
Based on the possibility of future over-crowding and the seemingly universal distaste for unexpected public encounters with acquaintances, Ships in the Night uses weather app schemas to help identify the likelihood of running into people you know on a day to day basis, giving you some control over your encounters.

THE RUN DOWN︎︎︎

Ships in the Night is based in a future where the population has continued to grow, and overcrowding has become a daily issue, especially in major cities. It is almost impossible to go anywhere without running into several acquaintances, which, as everyone knows, kind of sucks. As population density increases, privacy decreases, but Ships in the Night is a tool to combat this unfortunate inverse relationship.

VISUAL SYSTEM ︎︎︎
The app is based off of weather app schemas. I boiled down the weather app and carried over the concepts I found the most interesting. These impacted the visual organization and information displays.

Flâneurs

HIERARCHY ︎︎︎
People are interested in it because of how it impacts them,
Focus on immediate
and imminent experiences
BASE FUNCTION ︎︎︎
Tells people about something so they can prepare themselves accordingly
Predicts something seemingly unpredictable

ADDITIONAL NOTE ︎︎︎
I had a stupid fun time adding all the maritime twists.
